1. What is the difference between "Home Services" and "Home Health"?

Home Services (what we provide) is non-medical care focused on helping seniors and individuals with disabilities remain independent at home. This includes assistance with daily activities, housekeeping, and companionship. Home Health is medical care ordered by a doctor, involving skilled nursing, physical therapy, or wound care. We are a licensed Home Services Agency.

2. Do I need a doctor’s order to start services?

No. Because our services are non-medical and non-skilled, a physician's prescription is not required. You can start care whenever you feel you or a loved one needs extra support at home.

3. What specific tasks can a Home Services Worker (HSW) perform?

Our trained workers assist with:

  • Personal Care: Bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting assistance.

  • Homemaking: Light housekeeping, laundry, and maintaining a safe environment.

  • Meals: Grocery shopping and meal preparation according to dietary needs.

  • Support: Medication reminders, companionship, and escorting to appointments.

4. Can your caregivers give my mom her medication?

By law, our caregivers provide medication reminders only. They can remind a client it is time for their medicine and assist with opening a pre-filled pill organizer, but they cannot administer injections, manage IVs, or perform any clinical judgment regarding medications.

5. How do you ensure the safety of your caregivers?

Every employee at Trusted Hearts Home Care Services undergoes a rigorous screening process, including:

  • Fingerprint-based criminal background checks via the Illinois State Police.

  • Verification through the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry.

  • Comprehensive initial and annual training in safety and emergency procedures.

6. Are your services covered by Medicare?

Generally, Medicare does not cover non-medical home services. Our services are typically paid for through Private Pay, Long-Term Care Insurance, or specific Medicaid Waiver programs (if applicable). Please contact our office to discuss your specific coverage options.

7. What happens if my caregiver is sick or can't make it?

We prioritize consistency in care. If your regular caregiver is unavailable, we will notify you immediately and provide a qualified substitute worker who has been briefed on your specific Service Plan.

8. How quickly can care begin?

Care typically begins after we conduct an initial In-Home Assessment. This allows us to meet the client, evaluate the home environment for safety, and develop a customized Service Plan. This process can often be completed within 24 to 48 hours.

9. Can I change my schedule or stop services?

Yes. We offer flexible scheduling to meet your needs. Per our Service Agreement and Illinois law, services can be terminated or adjusted with seven (7) days' written notice.

10. How do you handle emergencies?

Our caregivers are trained in emergency protocols. In the event of a medical emergency or fall, our policy is to call 911 immediately and then notify the agency supervisor and the client’s primary emergency contact.
